The fully redesigned Volvo XC90 is one of our favorite new models for 2016 at 3Birds Template, transforming the fan-favorite vehicle into a thoroughly modern luxury crossover. Now it's been named among the 2016 Wards 10 Best Interior awards, further highlighting the model's stylish appeal.

The Wards 10 Best Interiors awards honor the best new or significantly improved passenger vehicle interiors of the year. The XC90 certainly fits the bill with an interior designed to make occupants feel better when they arrive at their destination than they did when setting out. Highlights include natural Nappa leather, open pore wood, and polished trim--not to mention the vertically oriented tablet-shaped display screen that serves as a hub for the model's many infotainment and convenience features.

A team of eight WardsAuto editors selected the XC90's interior among a field of 47 different vehicles, including 18 utility vehicles. The vehicles were evaluated on a number of criteria, including interior materials, ergonomics, driver information, safety, comfort, fit-and-finish, and aesthetics.

“The XC90 interior arguably makes the most dramatic styling statement in this year’s competition, leveraging a uniquely Scandinavian sensibility,” said WardsAuto Senior Editor Tom Murphy. “From the diagonal grain of the Linear Walnut wood inlays and Oreffors crystal gear shifter to the user-friendly tablet-shaped display screen and gleaming brightwork, the XC90’s cabin is a credit to all things Swedish.”

Robin Page, Head of Interior Design at Volvo Car Group, accepted the award on behalf of the XC90 at the Wards Interior Conference last month. Page also gave the afternoon keynote, where he discussed the theory behind the XC90's design and Volvo's exciting vision for the future.
