Here at 3Birds Template, we're proud that Volvo is dedicated to designing vehicles that are not only stylish, luxurious, and technologically advanced, but also go above and beyond when it comes to safety. Just look at the automaker's ambitious Vision 2020 initiative that no driver of a new Volvo model will be killed or seriously injured by the year 2020 for a clear commitment to this ideal. That's why the automaker's latest announcement regarding its car-to-car communication technology is not only extremely exciting, but also makes perfect sense.

Strictly speaking, the system should be more accurately described as "car-to-cloud-to-car" communication, as it allows internet-connected models to communicate with each other through the cloud, doing away with the need for the vehicles themselves to be in constant communication with each other. But what does this system have to do with safety? Let's look at an example.

Imagine a Volvo driver runs into a slippery patch of road due to ice or rain. The driver of another Volvo vehicle, a few minutes behind the first, has no idea the road is slippery until an alert pops up on their dash letting them know to be careful. They received that alert thanks to data gathered by the first vehicle, including the car's steering, braking, and acceleration information. The vehicle sent its data to the cloud, where it was passed along to where it could do some good: the second driver.

A similar situation might be someone whose vehicle stalls around a blind curve. They turn on their hazard lights to alert other motorists, but imagine how much more helpful it would be to other drivers if their Volvo let them know that they were approaching someone with their hazard lights on, even before they came into view.

All vehicles in the 90 series, including the S90, V90 Cross Country, and XC90 will come equipped with the system by the end of the year, says Volvo Senior Vice President for Research and Development, Peter Mertens, and the team at 3Birds Template is very excited to see this technology for ourselves. Our hope is that it comes to the States soon, but while we wait, we encourage you to learn more about the brand's other technological marvels (and even test-drive them yourself).
