Here at 3Birds Template, we're big fans of auto shows. They're a great place for automakers to show off concept vehicles and present their vision of the future of their companies to the world. And from the looks of the concept vehicle Volkswagen unveiled at this year's Paris Motor Show, the I.D., the future is going to be all-electric and self-driving.

The first of a planned fleet of all-electric vehicles, the I.D. is a compact electric vehicle the automaker aims to use as its springboard into the future. The production model of the vehicle should be ready by 2020, with a fully-autonomous version available by 2025. Additionally, Volkswagen plans to sell a million electric vehicles a year by 2025, and the production version of the I.D. should help in achieving that goal.

One of the most striking features of the I.D. (besides its futuristic look) is its projected range per battery charge: 249 to 373 miles. Considering that Tesla's Model 3 is predicted to travel 250 miles on a single charge, the I.D.'s 249-373 miles should do wonders for range anxiety. After all, if you can travel hundreds of miles on a single charge--and charge 80% after half an hour--EVs become as viable for long road trips as they do for picking up groceries from around the corner.

And soon, you won't have to drive yourself in either situation, as the I.D. will be fully autonomous by 2025.

A future-oriented vehicle, the I.D.'s appearance will change slightly when autonomous driving mode is activated, signaling other drivers by extending its laser scanner and lighting up its front and rear diffusers and side sills in blue. Once in autonomous mode, the steering wheel of the I.D. retracts into the dash, giving the driver more space to relax.

Volkswagen understands that a vehicle that can pilot itself is essentially a mobile room, and as such, the interior of the vehicle has been designed with spaciousness and comfort in mind. Volkswagen describes the interior of the I.D. as the "Open Space—a pure, airy, space" designed to soothe. Not only is the interior technically advanced and aesthetically pleasing, but it's practical as well--seats fold flat to increase cargo space, even into the floor if necessary.

Really, the Volkswagen I.D. is a vehicle that has to be seen to be believed, but we have a little while to wait unti it becomes available. Until that time, we invite you to test-drive one of the technologically advanced models on our lot right now. Call, contact us online, or stop by and visit us today to schedule your appointment.
