Land Rover, a luxury automaker that occasionally develops convertible SUVs, has lifted the lid (or roof) off its latest creation. As its name suggests, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Convertible is a topless version of the wildly popular Evoque. In anticipation for its fall release, Land Rover has released a video of the new droptop Evoque being tested on the trails of Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire, UK—a favorite testing spot of the British brand.
Despite the camouflage, we see that the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Convertible retains much of the standard Evoque’s look, which is certainly a good thing. Part of what has made the Evoque Land Rover’s best-selling model of all time is its strong, athletic design. And we’re happy to see that aesthetic carry over to the convertible’s handsome sheetmetal.
It’s hard to say what impact, if any, the convertible roof will have on the vehicle’s profile or visibility. But one thing that does look certain from the video is the Evoque Convertible’s off-road capability.
"Land Rover prides itself on being a class leader when it comes to all-terrain capability and the Evoque Convertible is no different," Mike Cross, Land Rover Chief Engineer, Vehicle Integrity, said in a press release. "Thanks to a combination of innovative engineering and the application of advanced technologies, Evoque Convertible will deliver a dynamic and assured SUV experience that has been tested around the world."
Following its debuts this month at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Convertible will go on sale in spring 2016.
