Jaguar and performance engineering

Serving as a learning process for the brand's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division (which has helped Jaguar Land Rover reach new levels of performance and luxury), Project 8 is the track-focused version of the brand's newest compact sports sedan.

"Project 8 is the first time we've done real performance engineering for Jaguar," says SVO Head of Global PR & Communications, Dan Connell. "[It] is a grand statement that says Jaguar can do ultimate performance."   

What's so special about this model?

Project 8 comes equipped with a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that offers a stunning 592 horsepower and a racing-inspired aerodynamics package. It goes from 0-60 mph in a mere 3.3 seconds with a top speed of 200 mph. This beastly vehicle will only be produced in 300 units, making it as rare as it is powerful. Project 8's significance goes beyond that of a powerhouse, however.

As one of SVO's project vehicles, Project 8 is helping pave the way for new and innovative Jaguar models in the future. “The key is: we will definitely launch a new SVO product each year for the foreseeable future, so this is only getting bigger,” says Connell. "It will be about what the market—and what the client—wants."
