With more and more people drawn to SUVs and crossovers, Lexus is expanding its offerings in this area with two new crossovers. Together, the new Lexus UX and expanded line of Lexus RX models will represent new segments Lexus has never tapped into before.
3Birds Template has all the details on them for you here.
New UX premium compact SUV
First, a calmed-down version of the Lexus UX concept (pictured above) recently debuted at the Paris Auto Show. The production UX will be available in three models (the UX 200, UX 250 and the UX 250h) and will compete with the Mercedes-Benz GLA in the premium compact SUV niche. Look for the 200 and 250 models to sport a 4-cylinder engine, while the 250h will have a gasoline-electric hybrid engine for maximum fuel efficiency.
“The biggest challenge for any designer is always to create something new and original, yet with relevance to both the customer and the brand,” said Lexus President of European Design, Simon Humphries. “Overall, this is a product which gives another hint of the potential for Lexus' design approach to satisfy those criteria. The expression of a progressive, strong yet artistic & premium product which further enhances Lexus’ unique and challenging brand position.”
New RX 3-row luxury SUV
In the 3-row luxury SUV segment, we have the new Lexus RX models. Longer than the current RX, these new models are designed to carry up to seven passengers. The Lexus RX 350L will be powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine and rated at 295 horsepower while the RX 450h will be a gasoline-electric hybrid expected to deliver 308 horsepower. These new 7-seaters will compete with the Volvo CX90, with higher trim levels taking on the Mercedes-Benz GLS. Expect the new RX models to be sized between the current short-wheelbase RX and the full-size Lexus GX.
Venturing into new SUV territory as they are, the Lexus UX and RX are sure to make their mark once they arrive at 3Birds Template next year.
