Sometimes clues to future automotive releases come from the strangest places. Such was the case with Toyota's recent "Lexus NX 300" trademark filing with the United States Patent and Trademark office as reported by MotorAuthority. Toyota filed the trademark for use with "automobiles and structural parts."
Of course, the NX range in the United States already includes the Lexus NX 300h model, which offers a class-leading1 33 mpg2 with its 194-horsepower hybrid powertrain. The NX 300 would likely slot between this and the NX 200t, which is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The NX 200t and NX 300h retail for $34,6953 and $39,7203 respectively.
The filing comes shortly after the 2016 Lexus NX received the 2016 U.S. News Best Cars for the Money award in the Luxury Compact SUV class. Jeff Bracken, group vice president and general manager, Lexus, took the opportunity to remark on how the NX has brought the Lexus brand to a wider audience: "It was important the NX go beyond utility with striking design and exciting performance. Beyond awards, the customer reaction to this vehicle is helping cement its reputation while enhancing the brand’s desirability for the next generation of luxury consumers.”
Whatever form a Lexus NX 300 takes, we're confident it will continue to win new fans for the Lexus brand. Unfortunately, the best detective work can only reveal so much, so we'll have to wait for an official announcement from Lexus itself. Until then, the 3Birds Template team is happy to answer your questions about the current Lexus line-up.
