Since the launch of the popular Prius and its various offspring, Toyota has become synonymous with hybrid vehicles. If you’re a driver in search of a hybrid, chances are you’re going to want to explore Toyota’s large selection. Recently at the 2015 New York Auto Show, Toyota announced another hybrid would be joining its efficient lineup—the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid.

The RAV4 Hybrid is the eighth hybrid offering from Toyota. Turning the wheels is a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine paired to an electric motor. The added electric assistance means quicker acceleration and better fuel economy.

While efficiency is vehicle’s primary focus, the hybrid setup also comes stocked with a standard Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel-Drive System that provides sure-footed traction in the slipperiest of conditions. Finally, drivers can enjoy the full scope of a sport utility vehicle without paying for it at the pump.

In addition to a new hybrid powertrain, the 2016 RAV4 model line gets sharper styling and a number of exterior changes. Up front, the foglights are now placed in the front bumper, while the headlights appear more canted and aggressive. Around back, the rear lights have been completely reshaped, and are joined by a redesigned lower bumper. Overall, the changes are welcome and breathe new life into the lineup.

Inside, the new RAV4 benefits from a host of upgrades to material quality, as well as an additional USB port up front and cupholders for tall mugs. Toyota says it listened to customers and added even more refinement to the interior. New features include an available 4.2-inch TFT multi-information display in a revised gauge cluster and a 7-inch touch-sensitive display audio touch screen. A leather steering wheel has also been added to all but the entry-level models.

Owners will also appreciate the great lengths through which Toyota went to improve the popular crossover’s tech offerings. There’s a full array of LED lighting (headlights, running lights, and taillights), and the RAV4 gets access to the new Toyota Safety Sense suite, which adds pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, and radar cruise control and more. There’s even a new four-camera Bird's Eye View Monitor to help with parking.

With all of these changes, the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid is shaping up to be one compelling crossover SUV.
