Cadillac has been redefining luxury for years, and the engineers and designers stunned everyone with the Escala concept reveal at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 18, 2016.

As the flagship vehicle for future Cadillac craftsmanship, the Escala serves as a preview to the evolution of design and technical elements coming in the Cadillac lineup.

The concept shows a possible move toward a larger, more elite sibling to the 2016 Cadillac CT6, which is already currently topping its segment. The beauty of the Escala is found in the details, as can be seen in the liftback design that emphasizes the model’s scale and new vertical lighting that gives it a fierce stance. A three-dimensional pattern in the grille and 22-inch wheels with two layers of spokes put the finishing touches on the sleek new design.

Inside, Cadillac designers have done something no other manufacturer has attempted; they’ve created a “dual personality interior” that focuses on the latest technology in the front seats and relaxation in the rear.

Three curved OLED screens are located in front of the driver, integrating the traditional cluster of driving gauges with the center stack into one unit that gives drivers greater ease-of-use. A prototype for a top-level user experience is also included, allowing drivers to execute tactile commands across connectivity functions, as well as voice and gesture control. To complete the interior, hand-cut and -tailored fabrics are hand-sewn throughout, giving the Escala the ultimate luxury feel that customers desire.

Of course, the model produces plenty of power as well with its 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, a new engine prototype coming down the line for future models.

My brief to the designers was to create a car you desperately want to drive, and also one in which you want to be driven. So rather than a single design, this interior consists of two themes. It was an opportunity for our designers to break the rules a little bit, exactly what Cadillac should do from time to time.
