We all like to let loose every now and again. The image we project in public is often more guarded, more reserved than how we behave around close friends and family. Volvo likes to let loose, too. While it’s often associated with stellar safety and sophisticated Swedish design, the automaker knows how to develop vehicles that get your heart racing via Polestar.
For those of you unfamiliar with Polestar, it’s the performance brand owned by Volvo Cars, and it recently launched two of the quickest cars the company has ever made – the new 367-horsepower Polestar S60 Sedan and V60 wagon.
Just how “quick” are these two specimens? Well, both feature an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph, and both can sprint from zero to 60 mph in a mere 4.7 seconds. To put that into perspective, it takes the 2016 Porsche Cayman 5.8 seconds to accomplish the same feat.
For each vehicle, Polestar has taken the original model and added a bigger turbo, a supercharger, new conrods, new camshafts, a larger air intake, and a higher capacity fuel pump. Also thrown into the mix are a BorgWarner four-wheel drive system and a new Polestar-optimized eight-speed Geartronic automatic gearbox.
In addition to this performance-focused equipment, Polestar has drastically reduced the car’s weight. Both the S60 and V60 Polestar are 53 pounds lighter over the front axle and 44 pounds lighter in total compared to previous model years.
Other new features on the cars include a new 20-inch lightweight rim, Polestar calibrated electro-assisted power steering and a new slotted brake disc of 371 millimeters.
Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that both models remain incredibly fuel efficient – thanks in large part to Volvo’s intelligent Drive-E engine – making it convenient for daily commutes but equally suited for more spirited driving.
The 2017 Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar will arrive this summer in limited quantities. If you're interested in getting behind the wheel of one, we strongly encourage you to contact 3Birds Template or visit us at 505 W. Franklin St., Chapel Hill, NC 27516.
