INFINITI President Ronald Krueger has confirmed that INFINITI will launch an electric vehicle in the next three years during an interview with Autocar. Without away giving too much information, he noted that the new vehicle will not be a derivative of any current INFINITI but would be built on a new standalone platform.

“We want it to have a unique INFINITI driving experience,” Krueger told the outlet. The new vehicle will maintain INFINITI's high standards of performance and handling, and at the same time, will rely on parent company Nissan’s electric vehicle expertise: “There are lots of engineering competencies we can tap into and utilize.”
Early Inspiration
The automaker's first venture into electric hybrid cars came in 2012 with the LE concept vehicle. The 4-door sedan had a 24-kWh battery pack and a 130 horsepower electric motor with 240 pound-feet of torque. It also featured wireless inductive charging using a 50-kW DC charging pad. While the LE received positive reviews, INFINITI executives were not yet satisfied.
Tough competition
This latest INFINITI performance electric vehicle will compete with the likes of the Tesla Model S, the upcoming Porsche Mission electric sports sedan, and others. A prototype has already been driven by Krueger, who called it “very good.”
