Porsche unveiled its Mission E concept car at this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show, and we here at 3Birds Template find it very exciting. Not only because the car itself is gorgeous (which isn’t surprising—it is a Porsche, after all), but because the Mission E is a 100% electric vehicle, one that rivals Tesla’s Model S in terms of range and power. Here’s what we find so exciting about the technology in Porsche’s new concept vehicle.
First, the Mission E’s electric drive system operates at 800 volts, about twice the voltage of other current EVs. That’s important, because it gives the vehicle two significant advantages over the competition: reduced weight and improved charging times. Higher voltage allows for thinner-gauge copper cables in the vehicle, which reduce its weight and allow for more speed. Higher voltage also makes for quicker charging times with an 800-volt charging station—the Mission E’s battery can charge 80% in just 15 minutes, translating to 250 miles of driving.
That’s a big step up from other EVs on the market, especially when you consider that many of them can’t go 250 miles on a fully charged battery. All in all, the Mission E is expected to have more than 300 miles of range, and with its two permanent magnet synchronous motors—one for each axle—the Mission E is capable of more than 600 horsepower.
Although Porsche hasn’t announced any plans to make a production model of the powerful electric vehicle, be sure to contact us today to learn if that changes. Or stop by the dealership and test-drive one of our new Porsche models.
