It should come as no surprise to anyone that the automaker behind the 100% electric Nissan Leaf is incredibly energy-efficient in general. Nissan not only does its part to save energy in the vehicles that it makes, but its efforts to reduce energy usage in its manufacturing facilities across America have earned it the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award--Sustained Excellence for the 5th year in a row.

Nissan's Rebecca Vest, vice president, Corporate Development and Social Responsibility, had this to say about the award: "Nissan is honored to once again be recognized as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the year. We continue to make improvements to our operations that reduce our environmental footprint as we manufacture the highest quality vehicles sold in North America."

Nissan's big energy-saving wins have included improving industrial motor efficiency, switching to more efficient LED lighting, and using a paint process that has cut energy usage by 30 percent. Additionally 2016 marks the 10th year in a row Nissan's Canton, Mississippi and Smyrna, Tennessee facilities have been ENERGY STAR®-certified (which is even more impressive when you realize that the Smyrna facility assembled more vehicles than any other automotive plant in North America in 2015).
