When it comes to cutting-edge automotive technology, sometimes the law doesn't move forward as quickly as automakers do. (Take the legality of laser headlights and autonomous vehicles as an example.) But then there are those times when the law catches up with what automotive engineers are capable of creating, and that's cause for celebration. The latest tech feature to excite the team at 3Birds Template? Cadillac's very own CT6. Or more specifically, the CT6's digital rearview mirror.
"What exactly is a digital rearview mirror?" we hear you wonder. Essentially, Cadillac has integrated a special screen into the rearview mirror of the 2016 CT6. Most of the time, it operates like any other mirror would. But with the flip of a switch, it can display a live feed from the sedan's backup camera, enhancing rear visibility and reducing blind spots.
Anyone who's packed their back seat to the ceiling knows the pain of doing without their rearview mirror (or the struggle of trying to carve out a little "viewing tunnel"), but the CT6's cutting-edge tech does away with the problem altogether. Until recently, however, there was a question as to whether the camera/mirror combo would meet the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) federal safety standards. Luckily for us all, the NHTSA has officially given the mirror its seal of approval, and good thing, too--GM plans to also use the digital mirror in the Cadillac XT5 crossover and the Chevrolet Bolt EV.
Of course, to really get a good understanding of how the 2016 Cadillac CT6's digital rearview camera works, you're going to need to take one for a test drive. Call, contact us online, or stop by the dealership today, and we'll schedule one for you.
