It’s hard to predict what the future holds, but if the Lincoln brand’s latest showing at the Los Angeles Auto Show is anything to go by, the future looks bright for the Navigator SUV.

The Lincoln Navigator concept is a glimpse into the future of both the brand and Lincoln’s best-known nameplate.

Set a course for luxury

Lincoln says that the Navigator concept was inspired by luxury yachts and sailboats. This influence can be seen in everything from the vehicle’s clean, modern lines and Storm Blue exterior, to teak finishes and exquisite detailing throughout.

An engaging exterior design isn’t the only thing that helps the Lincoln Navigator concept stand out. It’s accessed through distinctive and elegant gullwing doors and deployable concertina steps. A special lighting sequence, which is a signature feature on the new Continental luxury sedan, warmly welcomes passengers for every journey.

Inside, the Navigator concept boasts what Lincoln describes as the brand’s most spacious interior yet. It also features six Lincoln-patented Perfect Position Seats (also available on the Lincoln Continental) that adjust 30 ways to best support various body types and seating preferences.

Monitors on the back head restraints offer passengers a wealth of media content sharing, streaming, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The concept vehicle is equipped with several drive modes designed to improve ride and handling and allow drivers to find the experience that best suits their given terrain. There’s also a 360-degree camera and enhanced park assist features to take the stress out of parallel and perpendicular parking.

A safer future

Last but certainly not least, the Navigator concept highlights a future where accidents and human error are mitigated – and even altogether eliminated – through the intelligent use of technology.

The Navigator concept’s Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection uses radar and camera technology to scan the road ahead and warn the driver of potential risks. Should the driver not react fast enough, the system can automatically apply up to full braking force to help reduce the severity of some frontal collisions.

A lane-keeping system is also on hand and vibrates the steering wheel to alert drivers straying from their lane, providing mild input to encourage them back toward the center.

3Birds Template is excited to see what aspects of the Navigator concept make it to production (if any).
