Land Rover will further its commitment to passionate Land Rover customers with the launch of the Reborn Initiative for the iconic Series I.
The initiative will see Land Rover Classics’ experts search the used car market for Series I models, and draw on decades of experience to hand-pick 25 examples deemed worthy of restoration.
Each unit will undergo a complete restoration according to the original 1948 factory specifications, and receive official Land Rover Classic parts to preserve authenticity. This includes period-specific finishes, including Light Green, Bronze Green, RAF Blue, Dove Gray, and Poppy Red.
The Reborn Initiative offers 25 prospective customers the unique opportunity to purchase an original and highly collectable Land Rover Series I directly from Land Rover Classic.
Customers will select their preferred base vehicle with the help and guidance of Land Rover Classic's experienced restoration team, and they will be able to follow the restoration of their Series I from start to finish. Work on the vehicles will be completed at the old Solihull production where the Series I and its successor, the classic Defender, were originally produced.
Few vehicles possess such a rich heritage as the Land Rover Series I. The venerated model was born out of post- World War II Britain. At the time, the company required a practical vehicle to help keep production alive, with inspiration for the Series I coming from the Willys Jeeps used throughout the war.
Interestingly enough, the iconic shape of the Series I was first sketched in sand by engineering director Maurice Wilks during a day out at Red Wharf Bay in Angsley, Wales back in 1947.
