Working in conjunction with the Austrian Red Cross, Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations has created the Project Hope Discovery. This unique version of the Land Rover Discovery utilizes the latest drone technology to improve communication and speed up response time during disaster relief efforts.

Roof-mounted drone uses magnetic retention technology

The Discovery is equipped with a world-first fully integrated landing system featuring self-centering and magnetic retention technology, allowing a drone to land on the vehicle while it’s moving. The drone will send live footage to Red Cross emergency response teams, helping them react more quickly to landslides, earthquakes, floods, and avalanches. The drone provides a bird’s eye view, allowing the teams to investigate these dangerous situations more safely.

“Land Rover and the team of engineers and designers at SVO are proud to support the incredible humanitarian work of the IFRC and its members,” said John Edwards, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations Managing Director.  “The new Discovery is an outstanding all-terrain SUV, and Project Hero is the optimum combination of enhanced capability and innovative technology. We hope to help the Red Cross save lives in emergency situations.”

Continuing a 64-year partnership

Since 1954 Land Rover has supported the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the largest humanitarian effort in the world. Land Rover has provided the Red Cross with 120 vehicles over the years for use across the globe. Beginning in June, the Project Hope Discovery will be used at the Austrian Red Cross training center in Vienna to help develop innovative techniques for disaster relief, including nighttime and dense forest scenarios.

At 3Birds Template, we are proud to be associated with the Land Rover brand and salute its generous efforts with the Red Cross.
