This isn’t just a concept. It is a preview of a five-seat production car that will be on the road in 2018. This will be Jaguar’s first-ever battery-powered electric vehicle and opens a new chapter in the history of our legendary brand.
The SUV sports a cab-forward design inspired by the Jaguar C-X75 supercar, which gives it two advantages. First, the design makes for a bold, aggressive look, and secondly, the placement of the cabin improves the aerodynamics of the vehicle, giving it a drag coefficient of just 0.29 Cd. The I-PACE Concept sports a host of other features to reduce drag, including everything from flush door handles to a C-X75-derived hood scoop.
In terms of power, the I-PACE Concept boasts electric motors on the front and rear axles, which work together to deliver a blistering 400hp and 516-lb ft of instant torque. Thanks to electric all-wheel drive, the vehicle is able to deliver exceptional traction in a variety of environmental and road conditions. Even the placement of the battery helps lower the SUV's center of gravity and reduce body roll.
The I-PACE Concept will likely have an EPA-estimated range of 220 miles and charging is quick. Using 50kW DC fast charging, drivers can achieve an 80% charge in just 90 minutes, with a full charge in a little over 2 hours. (A far cry from overnight charging.)
