Wouldn’t it be great to see into the future? We sure think so. But since our crystal ball has gone missing, and the stars seem somewhat hazy at the moment, we’re resorting to the next best thing: concept cars. The Mazda KOERU concept to be exact.
The KOERU, which takes its name from the Japanese verb for “going beyond,” is a crossover concept that debuted at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. It showcases the latest embodiment of Mazda’s award-winning Kodo design language. The only difference here is that it’s applied to a much larger crossover.
Here’s where the fun speculation begins: could the KOERU concept preview what’s in store for the current Mazda CX-9?
We can’t really say for sure, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility. Automakers often use concept cars to gauge public interest and show off design aspects they have in store for future models. Given the size and shape of the KOERU concept it makes perfect sense that the next Mazda CX-9 could preview what’s to come.
While technical details for the KOERU are scarce, as is often the case with concept cars, Mazda says that, beyond the styling, its latest concept was designed with optimized aerodynamics in mind, especially over the upper body and underneath its sleek frame. This was done in order to “enhance vehicle stability when driving at speed.”
It’s also said to sport the brand’s latest Skyactiv, i-Activesense, and Mazda Connect technologies.
Of course, the KOERU/CX-9 would be a welcome addition to Mazda’s stellar lineup of crossover SUVs, which already features the stylish Mazda CX-5 and all-new Mazda CX-3.
Whether the Mazda KOERU concept makes the transition from concept to reality remains to be seen, but we here at 3Birds Template certainly hope it does.
