INFINITI and the Renault Sport Formula One Team have unveiled the new R.S.17, the result of a collaboration that started in 2016. The new vehicle incorporates the co-developed second generation Energy Recovery System (ERS), representing another big success for the technical partnership.
3Birds Template has more details on it for you here.
A team effort
This new ERS is the result of a team effort with a group of INFINITI Performance Hybrid Technology engineers at Renault’s research and development facility in France. The new ERS will be in use this coming racing season. INFINITI brings extensive knowledge in Performance Hybrid technology along with young, fresh-thinking engineering talent and enthusiasm from the INFINITI Engineering Academy.
"Performance Hybrid technology is one of INFINITI's major strengths," said Tommaso Volpe, INFINITI Global Motorsport Director. "We launched our first performance hybrid car in 2011 and we were the first car manufacturer to use this technology to boost performance rather than to reduce consumption.”
As part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, INFINITI was the “perfect partner” to support the Renault Sport Formula One Team in its in-house development of the new ERS technology. “We are gaining invaluable experience in Performance Hybrid technology as a result of the collaboration with the Team, and this experience is being transferred back to our core business to improve future technology," said Volpe.
A proud partnership
INFINITI’s global recruitment program is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for engineering students from around the world to join this unique automotive partnership between the two companies. 2017 marks the fourth edition of the program, which includes crossover opportunities and the sharing of technology between INFINITI and the Renault team as a core pillar.
