There's no question that one of the most popular vehicle segments right now is the crossover, which is why Hyundai plans to add a few new ones to its lineup. Hyundai Motor America president and CEO Dave Zuchowski said he thinks that popularity is going to stick around for a while. Speaking at the launch of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra sedan in San Diego, Zuchowski said the shift toward crossover vehicles is "a generational shift that probably will accelerate rather than slow down. We don't think that's a temporary change. It's driven by lifestyle."

Millennials want to be as active as previous generations, they're just less willing to purchase multiple vehicles to achieve that goal. They're interested in one vehicle that can do it all, making crossovers the perfect vehicles for them. They offer a lot of utility, in addition to great fuel economy and styling, and are affordably priced. Now, shifting production to make more crossovers might be a bit of a change for Hyundai, but it's one the automaker's ready to handle.

Hyundai recently added Santa Fe Sport construction back to its plant in Alabama, giving it the capacity to build smaller crossover SUVs. Although details have yet to be confirmed, Hyundai is probably going to get a pair of new crossovers: a subcompact model about the size of a Jeep Renegade, and an even smaller model, (perhaps the size of a Kia Soul?) but it's unclear as to whether that model would be available to US dealers. And don't forget about Genesis. Hyundai's luxury brand is likely to see a pair of new crossovers as well, likely something sized around BMW's X3 and X5.

Here at 3Birds Template, we're excited about the news that Hyundai's going to be producing more crossovers. They're fun to drive; they're fun to be driven in; they offer plenty of room and maneuverability. What's not to love?
