With more than a century of reporting on the automobile industry and countless reviews of thousands of cars, Autocar has sharpened its knack for recognizing excellence in vehicular design and performance. Autocar recently bestowed its prestigious Innovation Award on the Lamborghini Huracán Performante.

About the award

The Innovation Award is presented to the vehicle that manifests the design and technological innovations that most amazed the Autocar team in the past year. The winning design is “something that has broken new ground,” explains the magazine’s editorial manager Mark Tisshaw.

“Having just driven the car at its launch, we can … vouch for the remarkable performance of this naturally aspirated super sports car,” he said. “The active aerodynamics system takes dynamic handling to a new level.”

About the car

Autocar singled out the Huracán Performante for its incredible aerodynamic design. Lamborghini calls this system Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA), or active aerodynamics. In ALA, the rear wing opens and air is pushed through a channel inside, sharply reducing drag. A tiny computer individually adjusts the left and right spoilers in order to maximize downforce. All these actions combined make the Huracán Performante fast.

In fact, it’s actually the fastest. The Huracán Performante achieved the speediest lap time of any production car ever at the Nürburgring, largely due to the active aerodynamics.

The makers respond

Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini Stefano Domenicali declared, “We are exceptionally glad to get formal acknowledgment from a prominent and regarded UK car distribution.” For the innovator, the honor is icing on the cake, an additional affirmation of the Huracán Performante’s exceptional ability.
