New for 2015

Having received a comprehensive update last, the Sportage returns with some minor reshuffling of content to its option packages.

Fun and Feisty

The Sportage is Kia’s oldest running nameplate, debuting back in 1995. It’s certainly evolved over the years, from a rough and tumble 4X4 to a modern day crossover SUV with good looks, sophisticated handling, and plenty of interior features.

The 2015 Kia Sportage provides the perfect blend of power and performance making it a compelling choice for drivers searching for a fun and versatile crossover. Indeed, the only thing more attractive than its sultry suit of metal is its price point, which starts at an alluring $21,900.*

Power and Performance

The 2015 Kia Sportage can be had with one of two distinct engines. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine serves as the core option, and churns out 182 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, while an available and more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter produces 260 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. Both engine types are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, but for those in less agreeable climates, all-wheel drive is available.

The Sportage sports some impressive fuel economy numbers. Front-wheel drive non-turbocharged models earn an EPA-estimated 24 mpg combined while all-wheel drive models see that number dip ever so slightly to 22 mpg combined.** Turbocharged 2.0-liter models see their combined fuel economy numbers drop to 23 mpg combined with FWD and 21 combined mpg with AWD.**

Features and Trims

The 2015 Kia Sportage is available in LX, EX, and SX models.

The Sportage has built its reputation on providing owners with a desirable helping of standard features, and the 2015 LX model continues this trend. Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, air-conditioning, a height-adjustable driver seat, and 60/40 split-folding reclining second-row seats. Added to the mix are full power accessories, cruise control, and a tilt and telescoping steering wheel.

Noteworthy standard electronic and tech features include a six-speaker audio system with CD player and satellite radio as well as Bluetooth® smartphone connectivity and USB/iPod® support.

Feel like decking out your Sportage even further? No problem. LX models get access to a Popular Equipment package that adds a rear spoiler, automatic headlights, and rearview camera.  Kia’s UVO eServices also makes the list, which uses advanced voice-activation technology to place hands-free calls, listen to streaming audio, and play your favorite songs—all with simple and intuitive voice commands.

Sportage shoppers seeking more amenities can opt for the mid-range EX model. In addition to the features listed in the LX and Popular Equipment package, EX models get 18-inch alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The EX also includes an upgraded sound system and six-way power driver seat.

Want more content to keep you content? An available Premium package adds snazzy power-folding side mirrors, a gorgeous panoramic sunroof, navigation, and leather upholstery. Ventilated front seats along with keyless ignition/entry also make the features list

Finally, the top-tier SX model features a turbocharged engine and LED taillights. A Premium package similar to the one offered for EX models is also available.

And of course, all Kia models, including the 2015 Sportage, are backed by a standard 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Design

Without a doubt the 2015 Kia Sportage is one of the best looking crossover SUVs around. Sharp lines and a distinct grill give it a menacing yet athletic appearance, while the introduction of available LED taillamps and HID daytime running lamps provide further sophistication to an already eye-catching design. We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the Sportage’s imposing big wheels and pinched greenhouse, which further add to the car’s distinct and engaging appearance.

While it’s easy to lose track of time staring at the Sportage’s handsome exterior, it’s inside where you’ll be spending most of your time. Thankfully, Kia has gone through great lengths to ensure the interior matches the same level of thoughtfulness and quality found throughout the rest of the vehicle. Occupants are greeted to a stylish and warm interior that is both spacious and versatile. The available panoramic sunroof is likely to be a particular favorite, while the voluminous 54.5 cubic feet of cargo space will prove more than adequate for most.

Safety

The 2015 Kia Sportage comes standard with a great deal of safety features. Highlights include antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints. A rollover sensor is also standard as are hill start assist and downhill brake control.

The 2015 Kia Sportage also features the latest and most advanced version of Kia’s UVO eServices. Optional in LX models and standard with EX and SX trims, UVO eServices provides everything from emergency roadside assistance to stolen vehicle tracking. With UVO, parents can also remotely (via the UVO mobile app) set up geo-fencing and speed tracking parameters for teen drivers.

Bottom Line

Strong, versatile, and with style to spare, the 2015 Sportage excels in many different areas. Two different but equally capable engines are joined by cutting-edge technology and a generous list of standard features. Drivers looking to maximize fuel-efficiency are encouraged to stick with the frugal yet capable of 2.4-liter, while those among you looking for a slightly more thrilling experience should opt for the gutsy turbocharged 2.0-liter.

But no matter which model you choose, the 2015 Sportage is bred to deliver time and again.
