Jaguar has yet to offer a production hybrid or electric model, but if the latest rumors are true, the wait was well worth it.
The automaker recently introduced the Concept_e BEV at a low-carbon-vehicle summit in the U.K. (where sister business Land Rover is already offering hybrid models). With an 85-kW front electric motor and a 145-kW one in the rear, the Concept_e BEV looks tailored to efficient and effective performance. The four-wheel-drive electric platform, designed to work with aluminum-bodied vehicles, brings one in particular to mind: the Jaguar F-PACE launching next year.
It’s likely that the automaker is developing both hybrid and fully electric vehicles, but an electrified F-PACE would be a logical place to start. For one thing, the F-PACE is already bringing new attention to the brand as Jaguar’s first-ever sport utility vehicle. In addition, Jaguar recently announced a plan to double the size of its Coventry engineering and design center—the brains behind the brand’s advanced powertrain engineering and electric powertrain systems.
If a fully electric F-PACE does come to production, it could have implications for the XE and XF sedans (both of which share their platform “matrix” with the upcoming model). However, Jaguar offered “no comment” to Car and Driver on this tantalizing theory—which is why we at 3Birds Template are opening the question up to you: would you buy an all-electric F-PACE, or would you rather see Jaguar go another direction?
