This fall, Toyota is looking to revolutionize the industry with an-all new Prius model. In anticipation for the 2017 Prius Prime, 3Birds Template has put together this handy FAQ, which should help answer questions regarding the newest member of the popular and groundbreaking Prius family.

What is the Prius Prime?

The Prius Prime is a revolutionary new ultra-efficient model with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It replaces the previous-generation Prius Plug-in Hybrid.

Does the Prius Prime require that I plug in to use it?

No, but in order to get the most out of the vehicle, we recommend keeping it charged when possible. Plugging it in also has the potential to save you money (depending on your electricity rate). The more often you keep it plugged in, the greater your gasoline fuel savings will be.

What is a plug-in hybrid?

Plug-in hybrid vehicles are similar to a Prius, but sport a larger battery and more powerful motors that allow them to run much longer in EV Mode.

What is MPGe?

MPGe helps compare the mileage of driving in electric mode to the commonly used MPG figure for gasoline-powered vehicles. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) uses the MPG equivalent (MPGe) figure to convert the measurement of power used by plug-in hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles, and others not powered by traditional liquid fuels into something that resembles the more familiar MPG rating.

How long is the battery in the Prius Prime designed to last?

The battery in the Prius Prime is designed to last the life of the vehicle.

Does it need gas in the tank to operate?

While the Prius Prime can operate under certain conditions on electricity alone, we strongly recommend having gas in the tank at all times.

How does the performance of the Prius Prime compare to a gasoline-powered vehicle?

Very well. Because of its advanced electric motors, the Prius Prime delivers smoother acceleration than a traditional gasoline engine. The vehicle’s performance is also boosted by Toyota’s first dual motor drive system, which delivers excellent road manners even at highway speeds.

How far can I drive the Prius Prime?

The Prius Prime is expected to drive over an estimated 600 miles in total range. EV range (range for the vehicle using electricity alone) is anticipated to be up to 22 miles if only recharging once. It’s worth noting that even without a full charge, the Prius Prime will retain the excellent fuel efficiency you’ve come to expect from the Prius brand.

How do I charge it?

The Prius Prime is easily charged.  Simply plug in its included charging cord into a standard electrical outlet.

How long does it take to fully charge?

The Prius Prime's battery can be charged in 5.5 hours by plugging the included charge cable into a standard household outlet. When using a public charging station (240V), the Prius Prime can be fully charged in just under 2.5 hours.

When does it arrive?

The Prius Prime is schedule to arrive this fall, and will be sold at participating Toyota dealers in all 50 states.
