Alfa Romeo is wasting no time expanding its lineup, and the latest mouthwatering model slated for release sees the Italian automaker looking to make a splash with its first-ever crossover SUV.
What is it?
Positioned against heavy hitters like the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5, the Stelvio (unofficial rendered image pictured above) aims to deliver a style-focused SUV that is practical enough for the daily rigors of life while also supplying the performance acumen to inspire the soul.
An official list of powertrains has yet to be released, but reports suggest that the Stelvio will feature the same gasoline and diesel options as the Giulia, depending on where the vehicle is sold. There is also a chance that a plug-in hybrid version could join its ranks in 2018.
It’s worth noting that if the flagship Stelvio’s 0-62mph time matches that of the Giulia, it’ll be one of the fastest-accelerating SUVs on the market, at 3.9 sec to 62mph.
Inside, the Stelvio's dashboard layout and equipment will reflect that of the Giulia. That includes the car's infotainment and sat-nav system, which can be controlled through a rotary dial on the center console.
What are its rivals?
Standard versions of the Stelvio will compete with the rival premium mid-size SUVs. These include the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3, as well as the Mercedes-Benz GLC and Jaguar F-PACE; in fact, Alfa Rome is said be to using the Jaguar F-PACE as a dynamic benchmark.
More potent versions of the model that wear the Quadrifoglio badge (Alfa Romeo’s designation for its more performance-oriented models) will compete directly with the Porsche Macan Turbo and other models of its class.
Additional details
An official release date for the Stelvio is unavailable at this time, but reports indicate that the Stelvio is due to launch at the start of 2017. Final pricing has yet to be announced.
3Birds Template believes customers will be drawn to the Stelvio thanks to its engaging Italian design, thrilling performance, and luxurious features.
