To the team at 3Birds Template, Infiniti means many things. The brand represents passion, embodies luxury, and exemplifies high-quality, gorgeous automobiles, standing head and shoulders above its competitors. What makes Infiniti so successful is its vision--after all, without vision, a company is nothing. The same can be said for the people who make that vision possible, people like Executive Design Director Alfonso Albasia.
Not only Infiniti's executive design director but a corporate vice president as well, Albasia is a graduate of the Pratt Institute, a university that excels in the fields of industrial design and architecture. Albasia's entire career has been spent with Infiniti and Nissan, and for 28 years, he's been excited and grateful to work for such a brand. As he says in the interview, "I joined the company 28 years ago at what was then a small studio in California, but in which I quickly saw the great potential of our global company."
In the video above, Albasia explains how he views cars as "kinetic art", in addition to the manifestation of the human dream of moving faster than your own two legs can take you.
Albasia's favorite car is the Infiniti FX, as at the time of its introduction, crossovers didn't really exist as a category. He says:
At first glance, it was a 'wow' moment. At second glance: 'WOW.' They were part SUV, part sports coupe. But you have to realize that 16 years ago, crossovers did not exist. This combination of aspects was so fresh and unseen. I just stared at the images: 'What are these cars?' One of the vehicles was what would become the first Infiniti FX. It was amazing to me that something so visually powerful could possess such simplicity in its design.
In his free time, Albasia enjoys single-handed sailing--it's just him, the boat, and the ocean. It's a passion that requires great skill and endurance, and he says it's always a humbling experience.
When sailing at speed and at night, you sense when boat and sails are optimized. It is not quiet, but there is a silence or harmony, because both boat and sails are in the right place. This is like nothing I ever experienced before – how the simple elements of nature can propel such a heavy object effortlessly.
We're very glad at 3Birds Template that the brand we represent has such a passionate and creative person as Alfonso Albasia working for it.
