Take high-quality engineering. Add astounding innovations in automotive technology and dress it up in gorgeous sheet metal, and you've got yourself a BMW. BMW is rightfully famed for the leaps and bounds it takes in terms of automotive design, luxury, and technology, and CES 2016 gave the automaker a chance to show off some of what it's been working on lately. Here at 3Birds Template, we're very excited about what we saw. Take the BMW i Vision Future Interaction concept car as an example.

Though it has neither doors nor a roof, BMW's latest concept car is replete with a host of astounding technological features, including high-resolution vehicle displays, an instrument cluster with three-dimensional display, and function control with hand gestures, also known as AirTouch. Essentially, a driver won't even have to touch a surface in order to give the vehicle a command: specialized sensors can recognize hand motions and depth, allowing the driver to keep their eyes on the road, not a screen.

But the BMW i Vision Future Interaction wasn't the only bundle of tech from BMW that impressed us at this year's CES. The Internet of Things (IoT) is on the rise, and BMW is embracing our ever-connected world with the intelligent Open Mobility Cloud, a network that connects smart cars like the BMW i3 to everything from your Smart Home to your smartphone, smartwatch, and more. With the Open Mobility Cloud, your car can learn your driving route and recommend a detour if it is alerted to an accident ahead. Your personal calendar can display on your mirror, or you can get your weather report as you cruise along.

When you combine an innovative vehicle like the BMW i Vision Future Interaction with a network like the Open Mobility Cloud, and add a dash of autonomous driving, you get the future of automotive engineering. BMW has simplified the numerous control elements of your standard self-driving car into three simple modes available from the steering wheel:

  • Pure Drive, where you drive yourself
  • Assist, where your car's assistance systems actively intervene
  • Auto Mode, where your vehicle operates itself automatically

We're already starting to see some of the tech BMW showed off at CES 2016 show up in our current inventory. To get a closer look at the technological masterpieces BMW already has available, be sure to call, contact us online, or stop by the dealership today to schedule a test drive.
