Do you own a Blue Link-enabled Hyundai? If you do—and you own an Apple Watch—you’re just one app download away from finding your Hyundai, starting it, and even honking the horn remotely. As a brand, Hyundai prides itself on technical innovations. As Frank Ferrara, executive vice president of customer satisfaction for Hyundai Motor America, says, “Drivers can get into a Sonata today and find iPhone integration, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection and a smart trunk that will open automatically when you stand behind it.”
With the Blue Link app for the Apple Watch, Hyundai drivers that own a 2012 or newer Sonata, or a 2015 Genesis or Azera will find that their lives have just become a sci-fi movie. Why? Because Hyundai’s cloud-based Blue Link platform already allows Hyundai drivers to start their vehicles remotely and access service information through their smartphones. Add that capacity, plus voice control features, to a smartwatch, and you might just find yourself starting your car just by talking to your wrist.
If that doesn’t sounds like a sci-fi movie, we don’t know what does.
For the curious, the Blue Link Apple Watch app has the following features, all of which can be activated by voice commands or tapping an icon:
- Remote Engine Start
- Remote Engine Stop (though this command is only available when the vehicle is in remote engine start mode)
- Remote Door Lock/Unlock
- Remote Flash Lights/Honk Horn
- Car Finder
- Remote Status
- Parking Meter
