The Alfa Romeo 4C and 4C Spider are unique vehicles that speak to the performance-minded philosophy of the Alfa Romeo brand. Unfortunately, sports cars aren’t always the most practical choice, which is why is one reason Alfa Romeo is looking to significantly expand its portfolio.

According to reports, the Italian brand is hard at work developing a crossover that could debut as soon as next year. The as-of-yet-to-be-named crossover is said to share its platform with the upcoming Giulia sedan, another model in the works for Alfa Romeo’s expanding roster.

At this point, not much is known about the Alfa crossover. Reports indicate it will take on other premium crossovers, including the BMW X3 and Audi Q3. While the model would be the Italian brand’s first production SUV, it is not the first time Alfa Romeo has flirted with the idea of a crossover. That honor goes to the 12-year-old Kamal concept (pictured).

Interestingly, the all-new crossover and Giulia are not the only models in the pipeline for the Italian manufacturer. Alfa executives have also discussed two compact models, another crossover, a second midsize sedan, a fullsize sedan, and a mysterious specialty product.

Of course, whether all these models make it to our shores remains to be seen. Nevertheless, it appears the 4C, 4C Spider, and Giulia will soon have company on the showroom floor as Alfa Romeo is hoping to launch a number of these new models by 2018.
