The all-new Lexus LS 500h goes a step further in demonstrating how Lexus is re-imagining the luxury sedan. The model’s debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show follows the world premiere of the twin-turbo gas-powered LS 500 earlier this year in Detroit. Together, these models present the kind of bold design, enhanced performance, and sophisticated appeal that today's forward-thinking drivers are seeking.
New Multi Stage Hybrid System
Equipped with the new Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System, the new LS 500h provides enhanced responsiveness and linear acceleration. The 3.5-liter V6 Dual VVT-I V6 gasoline engine and two electric motors deliver 354 hp. This breakthrough technology enriches the performance with a four-stage shifting device, resulting in increased responsiveness while maintaining the smoothness that Lexus hybrids are known for.
Lightweight lithium battery
The compact lithium hybrid battery is 20 percent smaller than the battery in the current LS 600h, yet it boasts a higher power density. The lighter weight reduces overall mass and enhances overall fuel economy, emissions performance, and handling balance.
Japanese cultural influences
Quality, precision, and pride define Takumi craftsmanship, and these qualities are evident in all the LS 500 models. You find it in the interior lighting, the natural woodwork, and hand-pleated door trims inspired by origami. The overall design of the LS 500 models follows the Japanese concept of Omotenashi, or hospitality. All aspects of the vehicle are designed to take care of the driver and passenger, anticipating their needs and their comfort. The result is a luxury car that goes beyond what the world expects.
“Developing such a flagship model required a massive paradigm shift,” said Lexus Chief Engineer Toshio Asahi. ”Rather than being bound by the conventions that had defined luxury cars in the past, we aimed to create a car with innovative, emotional and sensual appeal that would draw customers’ eyes away from other luxury cars and provide entirely new values.”
