With the all-new 2018 Kia Rio, small cars are back in style. The fourth-generation Rio is considered a subcompact car, but don’t let that fool you—it packs a punch and plenty of features. 3Birds Template has more details for you here.

Bigger with better features

All Rio models are expected to ride on the same 101.6-inch wheelbase, which equates to an additional 0.4 inches between the front and rear wheels compared to the current model. Thanks to its longer wheelbase and more upright cabin design, it’s expected that the car’s interior dimensions will also increase. Riders will be treated to an interior designed to better resemble the larger Kia Optima and Cadenza. The Rio’s dash angles toward the driver and includes a floating infotainment system.

More horsepower and better fuel efficiency

Kia hasn’t shared details about the Rio’s powertrain yet, but it’s expected to run on a four-cylinder engine that may add a little horsepower and miles per gallon. The current Rio boasts 138 horsepower and an EPA rating of 27 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway.* A manual transmission is likely to be the standard, but an automatic option will likely be the more efficient choice.

Once considered “econoboxes” for their small, boxy, fuel-efficient build, subcompact cars have changed significantly since the Rio entered the market in 2000, with competition steering the segment into a more stylish direction. Making the most of its small size, advanced tech, and safety features, the all-new Kia Rio continues to push the segment forward.
