What's New?
The biggest difference you'll notice about the redesigned 2018 Chevy Traverse is a two-inch increase in its wheelbase compared to its predecessor. Two inches might not seem like much, but it translates to more legroom for third-row passengers and additional cargo space (98.5 cubic feet in total, to be precise). Another important change: increased use of high-grade steel and aluminum suspension components reduces the weight of the vehicle and improves performance and efficiency, making for a drive that feels more agile.
Overview
Stylish, safe, and perfect for any adventure, the Traverse is a three-row SUV that comfortably seats up to eight thanks to innovative split-folding second-row seats. Jam-packed with the latest technology and safety features, the Traverse comes equipped with a built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™.
The SUV is also equipped with several safety features, including a standard rear vision camera, available Front Automatic Braking with Intelligent Brake Assist, OnStar® feature suite, 10 airbags, and more.
With seven different trim levels (as well as available AWD), the Traverse delivers impressive value and incredible variety at a starting price of only $29,930.*
The Perfect Ride for…
Anyone that needs to haul a lot of gear, a lot of passengers, or both on a regular basis. With an EPA-estimated 27 highway mpg and 18 city mpg,** the Traverse offers impressive fuel efficiency for its size and towing capacity (up to 5,000 lbs). Despite the changes to this refreshed model, its ride is still as comfortable as ever, thanks to an elevated driving position and clear sight lines, not to mention its accommodating seats.
Drive & Handling
By default, the 2018 Traverse comes equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 now good for 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque thanks to a few performance upgrades. The 2018 model also sports a new nine-speed automatic transmission.
You wouldn’t think a big crossover would be especially fuel-efficient, but in addition to providing plenty of power and four-wheel traction, the Traverse surprises with EPA-rated gas mileage of 21 mpg combined (18 mpg city, 27 mpg highway) with front-wheel drive and 20 mpg combined (17 mpg city, 25 mpg highway)** with all-wheel drive.
Those looking for a torquier option should opt for the RS trim level, where they'll be able to select the Traverse's one optional engine: a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that's good for 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. It offers less horsepower, but more horses aren't always better.
Thanks to a powerful set of brakes, a well-tuned suspension, and a perfectly calibrated start/stop system, the 2018 Traverse is a joy to drive no matter where your adventures take you. Unlike some larger vehicles, it doesn't feel ponderous in the turns, which will be welcome when carrying full loads (so feel free to take advantage of that incredible cargo capacity).
