Overview
The Chevrolet Sonic is a small city slicker ready to help you tackle even your biggest tasks. The 2017 model is fun to drive, and despite its small frame, has plenty of space to stow items. New features for the updated Sonic include LED daytime running lights, a rearview camera, 7-inch touchscreen, and the latest MyLink infotainment system, all for a starting MSRP of $15,145.*
Whether you choose the sedan or hatchback body style, there are plenty of options available for you to add on. The RS trim is now standard on all hatchback models and the top Premier trim with manual transmission, though it can be included on the LT and Premier trim with automatic transmission. Opt for the Convenience package for the LT trim and enjoy even more features.

City dwellers or young drivers. This small sedan feels sturdy on the road and comes with plenty of standard safety features, including OnStar®, making it a great option for anyone in the market for a reliable yet affordable vehicle. Plus, the 60/40-split folding rear seat provides over 47 cubic feet of cargo room—perfect for camping trips, shopping outings, or bringing your four-legged friend along for the ride.
Drive & Handling
The base LS trim and the LT model are powered by a 1.8-liter V4 mated to a five-speed manual transmission that produces 138 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is also available.
The 1.8-liter has plenty of pep, but it’s also incredibly efficient. Frequent trips to the pump are made less so thanks to an EPA-estimated 28 mpg combined fuel economy (25 city/33 highway) with the standard manual, and 28 mpg combined (24 city/34 highway) with the available automatic.**
If you’d like a little more energy in your drive, opt for the turbocharged 1.4-liter V4 under the hood of the LT or Premier trims. A six-speed manual comes standard, though you can also upgrade here to a six-speed automatic. Both will produce up to 138 horsepower and a peppier 148 pound-feet of torque.
The move to a turbocharged engine is a boon not only to performance, but to fuel economy as well. Fuel economy is rated at 32 mpg combined (28 city/38 highway) with the manual and 30 mpg combined (27 city/36 highway) with the automatic.**
With responsive steering and turn-hugging capability, the Sonic is perfect for quick trips, but the interior has also been upgraded, making it comfortable enough for longer excursions.

OnStar®

Convenience Package
This add-on includes heated front seats, keyless start, a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel, and an enhanced driver information center. Choose this package if you’re looking for a way to elevate your driving experience.
Alternative Options
If you’re looking for an eye-catching compact car capable of zipping through the city, the Chevrolet Spark is a great option. With space for four, up to 27.2 cubic feet of cargo room, and all of the in-car technology you could need (or want), this is a compact vehicle that’s able to do it all.
On the other hand, if a little more room is what you seek, the Chevrolet Cruze has you covered. This model is slightly larger than the Sonic and is also available in a sedan or hatchback body style. The Cruze is sporty without compromising on comfort.
