Thanks to the new Trend model, the 2016 Volkswagen CC has a lower starting MSRP price ($31,570).* The new and improved infotainment system now supports Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™, and has a USB port. V-6 models now boast adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning and automatic braking.

A Sedan That Embodies Luxury and Efficiency

A sweeping exterior design, attractive interior, ample features and capable performance make the 2016 Volkswagen CC a fascinating machine. Since hitting the market in 2009, this classy sedan has impressed with its pleasing style and excellent build, helping to achieve its place as one of the top options in its class, with the likes of the 2016 Honda Accord, 2016 Acura TLX and 2016 Nissan Maxima.

With multiple trim choices, drivers won't have difficulty finding a model with the features and build they need. Additionally, reasonable price points ensure buyers get the air of luxury at a working man's price.

Powertrain and Performance

With the exception of the 4Motion Executive trim, the 2016 Volkswagen CC comes equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that pumps out 200 horses and produces 207 pound-feet of torque. The 2016 Volkswagen CC features a responsive front-wheel drive system, allowing it to perform well in a variety of environments.

Its advanced direct fuel injection system provides more power and greater fuel efficiency; gas mileage for the manual reaches a combined 25 mpg (21 city/32 highway) -- the same as the combined mpg for the automatic (22 city/31 highway).** Another notable performance aspect of the 2016 Volkswagen CC is the modern sport-tuned suspension, which provides a more comfortable and safer ride.

The entry Trend model comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission. For all other models, buyers get to choose between the manual and a 6-speed automated manual transmission (DSG). Both the manual and automatic models go from 0 to 60 mph in a solid 7.0 seconds.

The 4Motion Executive is the top-notch trim in the lineup, as it showcases a 3.6-liter V6 engine that generates 280 horsepower and pushes out 265 pound-feet of torque. That added oomph is noticeable on the road; the 4Motion Executive gets to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds -- faster than other 2016 Volkswagen CC trims.

For those that value an engine that hums, the 4Motion Executive certainly sounds more emphatic than the others. Furthermore, its all-wheel drive means better handling in tough elements. The 4Motion Executive's fuel economy -- which is at 20 mpg combined -- is a little lower than others in the lineup.

Features and Trims

There are six trim options for the 2016 Volkswagen CC, and each seat five people. Notable standard equipment for the standard Trend model includes 17-inch alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth® connectivity, satellite radio, an eight-speaker surround system and VW Car-Net® smartphone integration.

The upgraded Sport trim features bi-xenon headlights that come with adaptive front lighting, and the car also has fog lights. The Sport trim also boasts keyless access, a more advanced media screen and additional VW Car-Net® features. Navigation comes standard with this trim.

The R-Line, with its large 18-inch wheels and stylish door-sill plates, certainly has a more elegant look, and the mounted paddle shifters offer an additional element of control for the driver. Jump up to the R-Line Executive trim, and buyers are provided with a sunroof and leather seating. The R-Line Executive with Carbon utilizes new materials for the interior, giving it an even more exquisite look.

The high-end model of the 2016 Volkswagen CC lineup -- the 4Motion Executive -- is highlighted by its enhanced safety and driving features, which include park assist, collision warning, lane-departure assist, adaptive cruise control and an advanced computer screen, and it also has a 10-speaker surround system.

Design

The 2016 Volkswagen CC captures the style and luxury of the modern sedan. Upscale and sporty, it's basically a 4-door coupe.

The exterior, with its sharp lines, sleek roof shape and shiny details, is truly one of the most aesthetically pleasing in its class. It's simplistic yet full of flavor, and while the 2016 Volkswagen CC is certainly not a showoff, it will catch the attention of others on the road. The interior, with its bolstered sport seats, plentiful features and entertainment options, provides passengers with a joyous riding experience.

The design is also built for practicality -- the trunk covers 13.2 cubic feet, and the rear seats can be folded if drivers need to store extra luggage for a trip. Legroom is also surprisingly ample, and the car can fit five passengers comfortably. Dashboard buttons and other interior functions have been intuitively positioned, which makes doing everything from changing the music to taking a phone call a seamless process.

Safety

With stability and traction control, a rearview camera and anti-lock disc brakes standard for the 2016 Volkswagen CC, drivers get numerous helpful features to ensure a safe ride. VW's Car-Net® telematics system is also standard, which means remote vehicle access, roadside assistance and crash notification are offered.

The Bottom Line

The 2016 Volkswagen CC is a scintillating sedan that provides solid acceleration, fuel economy and overall performance. This car also boasts top-notch features and comfort, along with a look that is simply delightful. In short, few in its class can match the value and performance the 2016 Volkswagen CC delivers.
