Safety is one of the most paramount features of a vehicle, whether you're talking about a luxury car or the famed Volkswagen Beetle. And one of the best measures of a vehicle's safety is to look at its Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) crash tests scores. Not only are the IIHS's tests extremely exhaustive, but the organization recently made it even more difficult for vehicles to receive top safety scores. Even taking all that into account, the 2016 Passat was still recently named a 2016 Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS.
The 2016 Passat effectively combines proactive and reactive safety measure to ensure increased protection for passengers and drivers. When equipped with the Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist) system and Forward Collision, it received the highest possible rating of “good” in the Small Overlap Front Crash test – one of the hardest safety tests conducted by the IIHS.
Among the many safety features that come standard with the new Passat are a reinforced structure and Automatic Post-Collision Braking System. Also available is Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, active Lane Departure Warning system (Lane Assist), a Blind Spot Monitor and many others.
