New for 2016
The 2016 Lincoln MKT benefits from a little more tech polish thanks to its new SYNC 3® system, which replaces the previous MyLincoln Touch interface.
More is More
The 2016 Lincoln MKT is unlike anything else on the road. Its unique styling goes against the sterile designs seen throughout the luxury crossover market. But it doesn't stop there. In addition to its charming looks, the MKT really shines inside, where a stylish and spacious interior complete with three rows of seating awaits drivers and passengers looking for a quiet and luxurious driving experience. And unlike its rivals, the MKT comes loaded with a robust list of standard features--all at price point that won't leave you feeling cheated.
Powertrains and Performance
The 2016 Lincoln MKT is powered by a standard 3.7-liter V6 engine that produces 303 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. Power is driven to the front wheels via a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission.
While fuel economy is rarely a selling point among luxury crossover SUVs, the 2016 MKT produces some impressive numbers, and earns an EPA-estimated 19 mpg combined (16 city/24 highway).*
The MKT is also available as the MKT with EcoBoost. It employs a more powerful turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that generates 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. The MKT with EcoBoost replaces the standard MKT’s front-wheel setup with an all-weather, all-wheel drive system that makes short work of slippery services. It provides extra peace of mind when you need it most.
Despite its all-wheel drive configuration, the MKT with EcoBoost’s fuel economy remains strong, with EPA-estimates at 17 mpg combined (15 city/21 highway).*
Features and Trims
The 2016 Lincoln MKT is a three-row luxury crossover that starts at $43,370. It's offered in two trim levels: MKT and MKT with EcoBoost. Seven-passenger seating is standard, but optional second-row captain's chairs reduce capacity to six.
The 2016 MKT comes with an impressive list of standard features, including 19-inch alloy wheels, adaptive xenon headlights, automatic high beams, and keyless ignition/entry. Also standard is a sunroof, rear parking sensors, a power liftgate, leather upholstery, eight-way power front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, and 60/40-split-folding heated second-row seats. Additional standard premium features include 50/50-split-folding third-row seats, power-adjustable pedals, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering column, tri-zone automatic climate control, retractable manual second-row sunshades and a 110-volt power outlet.
The 2016 MKT also sports a large array of standard electronic features. The new SYNC 3® infotainment system replaces last year's MyLincoln Touch touchscreen electronic interface. Also included as standard are mobile WiFi hotspot, a rearview camera, Bluetooth® phone and audio connectivity and a 10-speaker sound system.
Selecting the MKT with EcoBoost adds a more powerful turbocharged V6 engine, all-wheel drive and adaptive suspension shock absorbers with three driver-selectable modes. From there, drivers can add the optional Elite package, which provides a power-folding/tumble feature for the third row of seats, a blind spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alerts, a heated steering wheel, a navigation system with voice-control capability and a 14-speaker premium audio system. The Elite package also adds a six-year subscription to SiriusXM®'s traffic data and Travel Link services.
Of course, the 2016 MKT can be upgraded even further with various packages and standalone options. For example, an optional Technology package (available only in combination with the Elite package) includes adaptive cruise control, a forward collision warning system with brake support, a lane-keeping alert/assist system, and an automatic parallel-parking assist system.
Stand-alone options for the EcoBoost model include 20-inch wheels, heated and ventilated sliding second-row captain's chairs, a second-row refrigerator console, a power panoramic glass roof, a rear DVD entertainment system (with dual 7-inch screens embedded in the back of the front headrests) and more.
Design
The 2016 Lincoln MKT is as eye-catching as they come. The luxury crossover boasts a dramatic roofline and up front, the MKT’s split-wing grille blends into the headlights for a look that is both unique and sharp. It’s also in line with Lincoln’s current design strategy and helps bring a cohesion and familiarity to brand’s model range.
Step inside and the MKT is even more appealing. The interior is roomy and luxurious, with enough space to comfortably sit up to seven passengers (up to six with the available captain’s chairs). The comfortable driver and passenger seats provide a commanding view of the road, and the available panoramic sunroof opens up the cabin even further. There’s even a generous among of cargo space that easily expands by folding the power 3rd-row seats and 2nd-row seatbacks.
Safety
The 2016 Lincoln MKT comes standard with rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, stability and traction control, antilock disc brakes, front seat side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags covering all three rows.
The MKT also comes with Lincoln’s MyKey feature, which restricts wheelspin, vehicle speed and audio volume for teen drivers. Seatbelts with integrated airbags are available for second-row seats for both MKT trim levels. Sync also offers emergency crash notification that automatically dials 911 in the event of an airbag deployment.
Additional safety features that are only available on the EcoBoost model include a blind spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alerts, a lane departure warning system with lane-keeping assist and a frontal collision warning system with brake support.
Bottom Line
The 2016 Lincoln MKT is a smart choice for drivers looking for a luxury-packed crossover SUV that offers plenty of space and lavish list of standard features. It's unique style is sure to turn heads, but you'll be too busy enjoying its powerful yet quite comfotable ride to notice.
