New for 2016
The 2016 Infiniti Q70 boasts a new Premium Select Edition package on all standard-wheelbase models (excluding the hybrid).
Spoiled for Choice
It's difficult to stand out in the luxury segment, which makes the 2016 Infiniti Q70 all the more impressive. With the Q70, drivers can choose between a standard-wheebase model, a long-wheelbase model - that adds 5.9-inches of rear legroom - and a powerful yet efficient Q70 Hybrid. Regardless of which model catches your eye, the Q70's unrivaled versatility and sumptuous styling make it one compelling choice.
Powertrains and Performance
Choosing the right Infiniti Q70 for you starts by selectng the appropriate powertrain to meet your driving needs. The 2016 Infiniti Q70 is available with three powertrain options. Rear-wheel is standard, while all-wheel drive is available on non-hybrid models.
First up is a 3.7-liter V6 that produces an impressive 330 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. This particular engine is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, and is rated by the EPA at 21 mpg combined (18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway) with rear-wheel drive,* and 20 mpg combined (18 mpg city, 24 mpg highway) with all-wheel drive.*
That makes for a pretty sporty sedan, but the optional 5.6-liter V6 turns the Q70 into a muscle car in a much more fashionable outfit. It puts out 420 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque, and is coupled to the same seven-speed automatic as the V6. That combination is still good for 19 mpg combined (16 mpg city, 24 mpg highway) with rear-wheel drive,* and 18 mpg combined (16 mpg city, 23 mpg highway) with all-wheel drive.*
If fuel economy is your main concern, though, then we strongly recommend the Q70 Hybrid. Available only in short-wheelbase form with rear-wheel drive, it pairs a 3.5-liter V6 and seven-speed automatic with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack.
The system’s combined output is a healthy 360 hp, while EPA-rated fuel economy takes an appreciable leap to 31 mpg combined (29 mpg city, 34 mpg highway).*
Features and Trims
The Infiniti Q70 is classified as a five-passenger midsize luxury sedan that starts at $49,850.** In addition to its standard-wheelbase form, the Q70 is also available in long-wheelbase Q70L form, with your choice of 3.7 or 5.7-liter engine.
That starting price buys a long list of standard features, including LED headlights and taillights, 10-way power driver’s and front passenger’s seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Optional equipment includes 20-inch alloy wheels, a Bose® Studio Surround sound system, and a navigation system with voice recognition, traffic and weather information, and Infiniti Connection telematics. The latter is part of a Premium Package that also includes semi-aniline leather seating with front-seat climate control, and Infiniti’s Around View Monitor.
Design
Already one of the most handsomely styled sedans in its class, the 2016 model pulls styling cues from the smaller Q50 sedan to give it a fresh, sporty appearance.
Visual high points include athletic headlights and taillights, a large double-arch grille, and nicely sculpted front and rear bumpers. A Sport Package is also available, adding a little more visual presence with a unique front fascia, as well as sport-tuned suspension and some interior upgrades.
The interior features a flowing dashboard and center console with standard Japanese Ash wood trim. For something you won’t see in any other car, Infiniti also offers wood with silver brushed in as part of the Deluxe Touring Package. For a sportier look, there’s also the Sport Package’s magnesium paddle shifters and aluminum pedal accents.
To make the space as pleasant to be in as it is to look at, Infiniti also gave the 2016 Q70 active noise cancellation, which uses microphones to detect offending noises and a speaker that projects sound on a canceling frequency. That's an especially welcome feature for drivers that are seeking a more serene driving experience.
Safety
Standard safety equipment on the 2016 Infiniti Q70 includes anti-lock brakes, stability and traction controls, dual-stage front airbags, and front-seat-mounted and roof-mounted curtain side-impact airbags.
In addition, an available Technology Package includes several electronic driver aids. Among them are blind-spot monitoring and blind-spot intervention, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, and backup collision intervention. It also includes adaptive cruise control and Predictive Forward Collision Warning, which monitors traffic ahead and anticipates potential collisions.
Bottom Line
If you're in the market for a stylish sport sedan that offers responsive steering, a robust list of advanced safety technologies, and available all-wheel drive, then the 2016 Infiniti Q70 is more than worth a look.
