New for 2015
There are only minor changes for 2015, including updated features for certain trim levels, revised door panel design and materials, and some new exterior colors.
Titan Tough
When it comes to full-size pickup trucks, the Big Three Detroit automakers are the usual suspects. But Nissan has been making trucks for decades, and it’s taking on Ford, General Motors, and Ram with the Titan. Nissan’s biggest truck is as capable as any, and as tough as its name suggests.
Powertrains and Performance
Other manufacturers offer their full-size trucks with multiple powertrain options, but Nissan keeps things simple with just one, which is capable of doing it all. An all-aluminum 5.6-liter V8 produces 317 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque, coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission with either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. With rear-wheel drive, the Titan gets an EPA-rated 15 mpg combined (13 mpg city, 18 mpg highway),* while four-wheel drive models get 14 mpg combined (12 mpg city, 17 mpg highway).*
The Titan’s four-wheel drive system isn’t like the permanent, electronically-controlled systems in most cars and crossovers, either. It’s a shift-on-the-fly system with both four-wheel drive high and low, giving the Titan some genuine off-road capability. Both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive models get a standard limited-slip differential to ensure solid traction as well.
The Titan can also tow up to 9,500 pounds when properly equipped, which Nissan says matches some larger ¾-ton pickups. For those living in markets where ethanol is widely available, the Titan can also be specified as a flex-fuel vehicle, meaning it can run on E85 ethanol, or straight gasoline.
Features and Trims
The 2015 Nissan Titan is a full-size pickup truck available with two cab styles and two bed lengths. It’s available in four trim levels, with pricing starting at $29,640.**
While it is a work vehicle, the base Titan S still comes fairly well equipped, no matter what type of vehicle you’re comparing it to. Standard equipment includes a tilt steering column, two dashboard-mounted 12-volt outlets, a 60/40 split-fold rear bench seat, skid plates on four-wheel drive models, and a lockable tailgate.
The Titan SV builds on the Titan S, incorporating all of its applicable standard features, and adding 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome exterior trim, a driver information display, metallic and piano-black interior trim, and more.
Near the top of the Titan range is the Pro-4X, which upgrades equipment levels even further and adds some off-road performance features, including a lower final gear ratio, Rancho shocks, and an electronic locking differential. Other standard features on the Pro-4X include a Rockford Fosgate®-powered audio system, Bluetooth® streaming audio, steering wheel audio controls, SiriusXM™ satellite radio with three-month trial subscription, and an entertainment system with 8.0-inch monitor, DVD player, remote, and two sets of wireless headphones.
The top Titan model is the Titan SL, which incorporates all of the applicable standard features of the other models, as well as 20-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, auto on/off headlights, dual chrome power-folding, auto-dimming, heated exterior mirrors, rear sonar system, Utili-Track Channel System with tie-down cleats, lockable bedside storage, navigation, hands-free text messaging, NissanConnectSM with Mobile Apps, and more.
Design
The 2015 Nissan Titan has exterior styling that exudes toughness. It’s bold and really makes a statement, but the Titan’s design is also functional. Nissan offers a King Cab model with Wide Open rear doors that swing back 168 degrees, as well as a Crew Cab model with four full-size doors. Both versions ride on a 139.8-inch wheelbase, with a 79.1-inch bed for the King Cab, and 67.3-inch bed for the Crew Cab.
To help owners make the most out of this capacious truck, Nissan also offer optional lockable bedside storage compartments, providing a secure area to store items. The optional Utili-track Bed Channel System includes five “C” cross-section rails mounted in the bed, and removable utility cleats rated at 200 pounds that slide into the in-bed channels. This provides a flexible system for tying down cargo. The Titan also has enough bed space to carry a 4x8 sheet of plywood between the wheel wells.
And while the Titan is a rugged truck, it still features all of the technology available in other Nissan vehicles. That includes an available navigation system, NissanConnectSM with Mobile Apps app suite, touchscreen display, SiriusXM® satellite radio, Bluetooth® streaming audio, and hands-free text messaging.
Safety
Standard safety equipment on the 2015 Nissan Titan includes anti-lock brakes, stability and traction controls, and Nissan’s Advanced Airbag System. A RearView Monitor camera system is available as an option.
Bottom Line
The 2015 Nissan Titan is a tough and capable full-size pickup truck.
