What’s new for 2015

The 2015 Jaguar XF rings in the changes with two new trim levels, Sport and Portfolio, and a number of former optional equipment, including a rearview camera, navigation, and keyless entry, now standard.

Exquisitely Exclusive

The midsize luxury sedan segment is filled with a number of top candidates from across the globe, but these usurpers to the crown can’t match Jaguar’s premium pedigree; it’s rich blend of old world sophistication and modern-day accommodations – all wrapped neatly in sumptuously sculpted sheet metal – make the 2015 XF sedan such a compelling choice.

While other luxury models have become more and more ubiquitous, the XF retains an alluring level of exclusivity. Why beg for attention among a sea of luxury sedans when you can demand it in the 2015 Jaguar XF?

Powertrains and Performance

Three prodigious powertrains make up the 2015 jaguar XF engine lineup, with each variation getting exponentially more ferocious than the one before it.

The smallest engine in the XF lineup is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. It creates 240 horsepower and 251 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed to the rear wheels via a standard eight-speed automatic transmission that provides crisp gear shifts and impressive acceleration. What’s more, the XF’s smallest engine also the most efficient engine, earning an EPA-estimated 23 mpg combined (19 city/30 highway).*

Sure they say “less is more” but sometimes more is just more. Enter the XF’s 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine. It’s rated at 340 horsepower and serves up a lip-smattering 332 pound-feet of torque. As is the case with the entire XF lineup, an eight-speed transmission once again handles shifting duty, while models equipped with the 3.0-liter V6 can be had with either RWD or AWD. And despite its increased gusto, the supercharged engine earns similarly impressive fuel economy numbers, with a 20 mpg combined (17 city/27 highway) rating.*

For the truly bold, the XF is also available with 5.0-liter supercharged V8 that produces 470 horsepower and 424 pound-feet of torque. Jaguar also offers more potent forms of this engine in the form of XFR, which squeezes 510 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque, and the XFR-S, which manages a further increase to 550 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque. The only thing missing from these supercharged engines is the traditional spandex suit and flowing cape.

Features and Trims

The 2015 Jaguar XF starts at $50,175** and is available in eight trim levels (2.0T Premium, 3.0 Portfolio, 3.0 Sport, 3.0 AWD Portfolio, 3.0 AWD Sport, 5.0 Supercharged, XFR, and XFR-S) that coincide with what engine lurks under the hood.

For 2015, Jaguar has generously increased the number of standard features across the lineup, with “base” 2.0T models getting navigation, keyless entry, a rearview camera, and Meridian audio system. Other standard highlights include 18-inch wheels, LED taillights, front and rear parking sensors, and leather upholstery.  Not be overlooked are the XF’s seven-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, heated mirrors, and blind-spot monitoring system.

Naturally, moving up the hierarchy of trims nabs drivers with a litany of upgraded features, such as larger wheels,  an adaptive suspension, and a sport differential. Meanwhile, more performance oriented models come with unique (read: more sporty) exterior flourishes, such as rakish side sills, black grille, sport exhaust and, in the case of the XFR-S, unique “R-S’ detailing.

Interior/Exterior

Despite its design as a four-door sedan, the 2015 Jaguar XF exhibits a much sportier look, courtesy of its aggressive stance (helped by available 20-inch wheels), aerodynamic body, and coupe-like roofline. Tasteful use of LED strings in the headlights add even more flair, while performance-geared models crank up the drama with more aggressive blacked-out grilles, black chrome air intakes, and blacked out side vents. R performance models are also distinguished by their quad exhaust pipes.

Plush, premium, palatial; the XF’s interior is everything one could desire from a midsize luxury sedan. In true Jaguar fashion, material quality is top shelf, while the front and rear seats cushion occupants with supreme efficiency.

Other aspects of the cabin impress even more. Controls, dials, and the touchscreen all operate brilliantly, but by far our favorite feature of the XF’s interior is the JaguarDrive Selector. Replacing a traditional shifter, the XF’s dial system is as elegant as it is innovative. Instead of an upright device, the XF employs a beautifully crafted metallic wheel that rises from the center console. It’s supremely more impressive and satisfying to operate than any other design and once experienced, nothing else feels quite the same.

Safety

Standard safety features for all Jaguar XF models include traction and stability control, antilock brakes, front side airbags and side curtain airbags, a blind-spot warning system and a rearview camera. The XF body is constructed of a reinforced protective bodyshell that incorporates a range of new-generation high-strength steels that create a vertical ring around the cabin.

Bottom Line

The 2015 Jaguar XF incorporates all the qualities midsize luxury sedan shoppers are looking for: style, sophistication, speed, and pure driving pleasure. It covers a broad range of needs while retaining a strong standard of performance across the board. The XF is also incredibly fuel efficient, providing luxury buyers amnesty from the riff raff of staid sedans littering the road.
