New for 2015

The QX50 gets standard Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity on all models for 2015.

Passion Meets Practicality

If you’ve always wanted a luxury sports sedan, but need the cargo space and all-wheel drive traction of a crossover, the 2015 Infiniti QX50 just might be the vehicle for you. It incorporates the styling and platform of the Infiniti Q40 sedan into a more practical crossover design, to make a utility vehicle that’s more than just utilitarian.

Powertrain and Performance

Befitting a sporty sport-utility vehicle, the QX50’s single available powertrain provides plenty of go, with a very nice engine note to boot.

The 3.7-liter V6 produces 325 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, and is shared with several other Infiniti models. In the QX50, it’s paired exclusively with a seven-speed automatic transmission, and either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

For added driver involvement, the transmission features a manual-shift mode, as well as DS mode with Dynamic Rev Matching, and Adaptive Shift Control. The optional all-wheel drive system also has an active center clutch to better balance power between the front and rear wheels.

That should make for a thrilling drive, but it doesn’t mean the QX50 will be gluttonous at the pump. It returns respectable EPA-rated fuel economy of 20 mpg combined (17 mpg city, 25 mpg highway) with rear-wheel drive.* All-wheel drive comes with a penalty of just 1 mpg in the highway category.

Features and Trims

The four-door, five-seat 2015 Infiniti QX50 is available in two distinct trim levels (each with a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive), starting at $35,000.**

The base QX50 comes with plenty of standard equipment, including dual-zone automatic climate control, RearView Monitor, Bluetooth® hands-free Phone System, and a seven-inch color display with console-mounted controller.

In addition to the applicable features from the base model, the QX50 Journey adds a moonroof, power tilt and telescoping steering column, an outside-tinting inside rear-view mirror with HomeLink transceiver, and other features.

On top of the standard equipment of both the base QX50 and QX50 Journey, there are three option packages available for 2015.

The Premium Package includes navigation with real-time traffic and weather information (with a SiriusXM satellite radio subscription), voice recognition, Streaming Audio via Bluetooth®, and an 11-speaker Bose® Premium Audio System, among other items.

The Deluxe Touring Package adds a bit more style with 19-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels and High Intensity Discharge xenon headlights, as well as convenience with a memory system for the driver’s seat, steering wheel, and outside mirrors.

Finally, the Technology Package includes driver aids such as lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring.

Exterior/Interior

When it comes to styling, the 2015 Infiniti QX50 literally thinks outside the box. It combines the tall ride height of a traditional crossover with the cab-rearward proportions of the Infiniti Q40 sports sedan it’s based on. In addition to making the QX50 look better, the front-midship placement of the engine also gives the vehicle better weight distribution.

At the front, Infiniti’s signature double-arch grille and curvaceous, L-shaped headlights create an attractive face, while at the back a rear spoiler and dual exhaust tips hint at the QX50’s sporty attitude.

On the inside, the QX50 is a very luxurious place to be, with standard leather seating, a leather-wrapped shift knob, and electroluminescent gauges. Base models get standard black lacquer and aluminum trim, while the QX50 Journey features maple interior accents.

All of that attention to styling doesn’t mean Infiniti skimped on practicality. The QX50 features 60/40 split-folding rear seats, with an optional power fold-up feature. Folding the seats yields a useful 18.6 cubic feet of cargo space.

Safety

The 2015 Infiniti QX50 is also available with a comprehensive array of safety equipment. Standard features include anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control, and front, seat-mount side-impact, and roof-mounted curtain airbags. Several electronic driver aids are also available in the Technology Package mentioned above.

Bottom Line

The 2015 Infiniti QX50 combines the best attributes of a sports sedan and a sport-utility vehicle. With a powerful V6 engine, nimble chassis, and attractive styling, it’s basically a sporty sedan on stilts, and that also gives it the tall seating position and cargo capacity of a proper crossover. Add available all-wheel drive traction, and you’ve got a vehicle with virtually no compromises.
