New for 2015

The Chevrolet Tahoe has been totally redesigned for the 2015 model year. Highlights include an integrated fold-flat third-row seat and updated exterior/interior styling and features.

Improving with Age

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe has always been a big rig designed to shoulder heavy burdens, traverse rugged terrain, and comfortably transport occupants without breaking a sweat. For 2015, the good folks at Chevrolet have added even more appeal to this old-school SUV's resume by revamping its exterior and exterior—all while providing greater levels of comfort and refinement.

Powertrains and Performance

One powertrain to rule them all with the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, as every model is powered by hardworking 5.3-liter V8 engine that creates 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard and transmits power through the rear wheels on 2WD models or all four wheels on 4WD models.

Helping 4WD Tahoe models traverse rough terrain is a two-speed transfer case with low-range gearing. A locking rear differential is standard on all but the base Tahoe, providing greater ride stability and traction. Additionally, the Tahoe the can be outfitted with available Magnetic Ride Control, which adjusts the stiffness of the shock absorbers for optimal performance depending on road conditions.

Fuel economy is never a selling point for large and heavy truck-based SUVS, but the Tahoe curtails its thirst for fuel with the aid of helpful cylinder deactivation technology, which does exactly what its name suggests, during certain driving conditions, helping it along to an EPA estimated 18 mpg combined regardless of driveline (16 city/23 highway 2WD and 16 city/highway for 4WD).*

Interested in driving a Tahoe? At some point it’s likely you’ll need or want to haul something—something heavy. Thankfully, the Tahoe is more than adept at doing so. When properly equipped the Tahoe has a maximum tow rating of 8,600 pounds (2WD models) and 8,400 pounds (4WD models).

Features and Trims

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe is a full-size SUV that is available in LS, LT, and LTZ trims. It can seat up to nine passengers and has a starting MSRP of $46,300.**

The entry-level LS Tahoe is well equipped, providing virtually everything owners could ever need from a full-size SUV. Standard highlights include 18-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, tri-zone automatic climate control, and power front seats (eight-way driver and four-way passenger, including power lumbar).

Tech highlights include Bluetooth® hands-free phone and audio streaming, a remote start engine, a 4.2-inch color display, and handy rearview camera. Also standard is GM’s excellent OnStar telematics suite, as well as a six-speaker sound system—complete with HD radio and satellite radio (subscription required), CD player, and USB/iPod® support. There’s even an SD card slot reader.

LT models add even more goods as standard, like a locking rear differential, power liftgate, driver memory settings, and heat front seats to name a few. LT models also get an upgraded eight-inch touchscreen that hosts Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment suite, which features voice control, smartphone app integration, text-to-voice capability, and more. The audio system also gets a boost with nine-speaker Bose system replacing the standard six-speaker setup.

Finally, the top tier LTZ adds to the LT’s standard equipment with even more amenities, including larger 20-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights, ventilated front seats, and pulse-pounding 10-speaker Bose sound system.

The LTZ also provides a number of premium features designed to make driving safer and more pleasurable. These includes foglights, front parking sensors, heated power-folding outside mirrors, keyless ignition and entry, heated second-row seats, a power tilt-and-telescoping heated steering wheel, power-folding third-row seats, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts.

Of course, if you’re looking to pick and choose what features you want, the Tahoe can also be outfitted with a number of individual packages and wheel options.

Design

Size alone and a commanding frame are enough to make the 2015 Tahoe stand out but it also benefits from smart design touches that come together to make one big and bold SUV. Sharp-edged styling with tower-like panels, sculpted bodywork, and LED-accented headlights strike a wonderful balance of strength and sophistication.

Inside, you’ll find spacious quarters and premium accommodations for Chevrolet’s popular SUV. We’ve already mentioned the wealth of standard and available features, but what truly impresses it the sheer amount of space the Tahoe provides. There’s a total three rows of seating which can be configured in various ways accommodate up to nine passengers, and a total of 94.8 cubic feet for cargo with the second and third rows folded down.

Safety

Vehicles like the Chevrolet Tahoe project safety by virtue of their dimensions alone, but it’s nice to know Chevrolet haven’t stopped there. Standard safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, traction control, stability control (with trailer-sway control), front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. Rear parking sensors and a rearview camera are standard on every Tahoe.

Also included as standard is OnStar, a telematics system that provides a suite of onboard safety features such as automatic crash notification, on-demand roadside assistance, remote door unlocking, stolen vehicle assistance, and turn-by-turn navigation.

Available safety features include front parking sensors, forward collision alert, lane-departure warning, a vibrating safety-alert seat, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring

Bottom Line

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe is one of the few remaining truck-based SUVs. As such, its excellent mix of strength, sophistication, and space is tough to find elsewhere. Nevertheless, if you’re looking for a vehicle that can tackle the tough stuff and navigate difficult terrain – all while transporting a small army in supreme comfort and safety – you’d do well to explore all that the Tahoe has to offer.
