New for 2015
The 2015 Buick LaCrosse’s improvements are mainly comprised of technology upgrades. OnStar gets 4G LTE capability, and the LaCrosse can now serve as a mobile hotspot. Last but not least, the LaCrosse now benefits from Siri Eyes Free technology, which allows for more natural/intuitive voice commands for various mobile device features (placing calls, receiving text messages, etc.), in addition to voice commands for radio controls, in-vehicle infotainment, and more.
Confidence Without the Arrogance
They say you should “dress for success,” and if the same maxim holds true for vehicles then the 2015 LaCrosse must be marked for greatness. Buick’s flagship full-size sedan has a greater sense of occasion than your typical luxury vehicle, exuding confident and blending the very best attributes of the Buick brand: chiefly, ample standard features, elegant styling, and a myriad of cutting-edge technologies.
Powertrains and Performance
The 2015 LaCrosse is unique in that its base model is comprised of a mild hybrid system. Where competitors charge a premium for this type of configuration, the LaCrosse provides it standard.
This unique powertrain pairs a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an 11-kilowatt electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack. Combined output is pegged at 182 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque, while power is supplied to the front-wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. EPA fuel economy estimates stand at 29 mpg combined (25 city/36 highway).*
Beyond that, the 2015 LaCrosse can also be had with a flagship-appropriate 3.6-liter V6 that serves up an impressive 304 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque. Again, we find the same smooth and efficient six-speed automatic, only this time, drivers can select all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive models return 21 mpg combined (18 city/28 highway).*
Features and Trims
The 2015 Buick LaCrosse starts at $31,065* and is available in Base, Leather, Premium 1, and Premium 2 trims.
Base models come with a bevy of standard features, including 17-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a luxurious eight-way power driver sea, complete with four-way power lumbar. Adding to its impressive list are split-folding rear seatbacks, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and cruise control.
Base models also boast an extensive list of standard technologies. These include OnStar telematics, Bluetooth® phone and audio streaming, an eight-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, and a seven-speaker sound system with CD player, satellite radio, and USB/iPod® support.
The Leather trim adds even more premium features. These include rear parking sensors, keyless ignition/entry, leather upholstery (no surprise there), heated front seats, an eight-way power front passenger seat, and an upgrade OnStar system that adds 4G LTE capability and Wi-Fi.
Finally, the Premium 1 and Premium 2 trims take things even further by offering drivers a greater level of luxury. Highlights for Premium 1 trim include an 11-speaker Bose audio system and 19-inch wheels, while Premium 2 gets you even larger 20-inch wheels and navigation system.
For the truly discerning, all but the base LaCrosse can be had with an available Ultra Luxury Interior Package. As its name suggests, it ratchets up the cabin’s refinement with upgraded leather, a faux-suede headliner, and real wood accents.
Design
The 2015 Buick LaCrosse’s exterior is an exposé in tasteful styling. A sculpted hood gives the LaCrosse and imposing but not intimidating look, while the large “waterfall” grille looks as elegant as ever adorning Buick’s flagship model. There’s also new-look headlights, which were redesigned last year, and carry over as one of the many standout visual elements that make the 2015 LaCrosse a real winner.
But the striking visual elements are not without purpose. Up front, the active shutters on the lower grille help aid aerodynamics at speed, while the optional bi-xenon HID lights help you see better around corners at night.
Inside, Buick has elevated its full-size sedan from also-rans to true segment contenders. The seats are thickly padded and supremely comfortable, with subtle bolsters to hold occupants snug should more forceful cornering be needed. The four-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in leather and feels just right in the hands. Instruments, especially the reconfigurable eight-inch multi-color display in front of the driver, are crisp and legible. And pulling it all together, an apparently contiguous band of highly polished wood sweeps around the cabin from door to door.
Safety
It’s not enough to merely boast an abundance of style and performance. Modern luxury sedans are primarily judged on their safety. Thankfully, the 2015 LaCrosse passes with flying color. It’s impressive array of standard safety features include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front and rear side-impact airbags, and side curtain airbags.
Also standard is OnStar, which includes automatic crash notification, on-demand roadside assistance, remote door unlocking, stolen-vehicle assistance and turn-by-turn navigation. Additionally, all LaCrosse models come with a rearview camera, and all but the base model have rear parking sensors for added peace of mind.
Bottom Line
The 2015 Buick Lacrosse is impressive, in a sophisticated yet understated way. It's quiet and comfortable, yet always feels reassuringly solid and in command. There's an aura of confidence about this car that proves you don't need to be showy to make others pay attention.
