You’d probably never guess, but we’re big fans of MINI here at 3Birds Template. Shocking, we know. There’s just something about the brand that we can’t help but admire. Maybe it’s the signature go-kart handling. Maybe it’s the near endless customization options. Or maybe it’s MINI’s rich history and the passion of its fans.

Needless to say, our love for the little British icon recently sent us on a quest to compile some of our favorite lesser-known facts about MINI that we think you’ll enjoy.

  1. The first BMC Mini ever designed was drawn on a napkin in Switzerland by Sir Alexander Issigonis.
  2. All four members of the Beatles drove Mini Coopers.
  3. An original Mini could be bought for around $1000 in today’s money – talk about a steal!
  4. The Morris Minor Mini was the first Mini to ever sell 1 million units.
  5. There are roughly 729 Mini clubs throughout the world, and about 469 of them are located in the U.K. It would appear that Brits love their Minis almost as much as 3Birds Template does!
  6. The Classic BMC Mini is one of the most popular cars ever built. It sold roughly 5.3 million units during its entire production run.
  7. Despite hailing from a country that also produced the Aston Martin DB5, the Jaguar E-TYPE, and the Lotus Esprit, the Mini was recently voted as Britain’s favorite car ever produced.
  8. Enzo Ferrari (yes, that Enzo Ferrari) loved the Mini brand so much he kept three of them in his garage.
  9. Giving new meaning to the term “now squeeze together,” the record for the most people to fit inside a Mini vehicle is 66.
  10. In 1964, BMC tested a 2.3-liter Mini with engines at both ends. It was so fast development was dropped.
